It's a practical way to get around New York, using the subway, whether you are rich or poor. But when you're rich, you can still avoid riding the subway by just making sure you have plenty of time for your limo, cab or your car to take you to your destination, or by just taking a helicopter and land on one of the helipads of your destination.
Although it's sure cool to see someone like Sergey Brin in the subway, I prefer to see politicians paid by tax payers money to start acting like We The People. Sergey Brin is promoting his Google Project and I believe his subway ride is another marketing ploy in launching it, it's not bad but a good marketing you can say..straight to where the people are.
